More than £1225 has been raised for the
Bone Marrow Unit at Leicester Royal Infirmiary
through entry fees, the raffle and donations at the Mike O'Rourke Memorial Tournament weekend, which took place in Grantham over the past weekend.
John Ashmore triumphed in Sunday's main event, defeating Paul Allan
in the final game to take the title. John was presented with the
Mike O'Rourke Memorial trophy by tournament organiser Nuala O'Rourke,
Wayne Kelly finished second and Paul Allan in third, with Chris
Harrison winning the ratings prize.
Lesley Trotter defeated Ellie Mackin in the final game to take division
B on spread, with both winning 6 games, ahead of Margaret Pritchett in
Sandra Davey completed a clean sweep of division C, wrapping up the
division with one game to go, ahead of Tricia Walker and Juliet Green.
Nuala's busy weekend included the baking of a wide selection of cakes.
These met with widespread approval and were all gone in short order.
Plenty of raffle prizes were on offer, as the draw took place just before
the final game, whilst the pairings were being prepared. Whilst some
people unluckily missed out on a prize, some others were wondering how
to carry their prizes home!
In the Saturday warmup tournament, Chris Hawkins had a clean sweep to
win division A by two clear games from Matthew Pinner and Victoria Kingham.
Peter Thorpe took division B, ahead of Ginny Dixon and Heather Burnet.
Division C was won by Val Hoskings, with Marlene Skinner and Tricia
Walker close behind.
