Chris Hawkins

Titles Registrar

Chris Hawkins

Chris Hawkins is currently the Titles Registrar, starting in 2020, having previous been one of the ABSP Deputy Ratings Officers, starting in the role in September 2009.

He first started playing Scrabble in 1991 and won his first A division event (Luton) in 1993. A dozen or so tournament wins were capped off recently with the National Club Tournament which he won with Peterborough clubmates Nick Deller and Graham Wakefield in 2007. In 2001, together with Austin Shin, he broke the world record for most points scored in 24 hours (135,758), and they broke their own world record 8 months later, pushing the total to over 160,000.

Chris keeps copious statistics on Scrabble, mainly for his own interest, such as prize money won at events, 'long' bonuses played, etc. He recently collated as many tournament winners' names and performances as he could find in the Scrabble archives, and now helps to maintain an up-to-date record of all tournament winners (top division) which is published on the ABSP website.

He is married with two sons. Away from Scrabble his main interests are collecting Lego sets (mainly Technic and Star Wars), and doing jigsaws (especially 'Wasgijes'). He teaches Maths at the UK's biggest academy.
